Romanian Cabbage

Since I missed World Food Day at Klarna I decided to post a traditional recipe here instead. This is a typical Romanian dish with a bit of a twist. I added chickpeas to the base recipe since I thought it would go really well and compliment the dish. We usually eat this together with polenta and green onions.

Ingredients

  • 2 small cabbage heads
  • 1 onion
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup chickpeas
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • salt to taste

Preparation

Chop the onions and fry them until they are transparent in a big pot together with the chilly.  Add in the chopped cabbage and the rest of the spices and fry until the cabbage becomes softer (10-15 min).

20161024-_mg_8721Add in tomato sauce and chickpeas then let cook for 1 hour. Some recipes transfer the cabbage also to the  oven for another 30 min, but it is fine if you skip that.

As mentioned it can be a dish in itself together with polenta or bread or it could be part of a larger meal. Smaklig måltid !
